Parameters used to describe the impact of a tsunami: maximum height, horizontal inundation and runup. The maximum height of the tsunami can be measured at any point through which the tsunami passes.

Horizontal inundation

Maximum horizontal penetration of tsunami waves from the coastline.

Maximum water height

Maximum elevation reached by the tsunami measured in relation to sea level.

Runup

Height of the water above sea level at the time of the tsunami at the point of maximum horizontal flooding.

First motion

The first motion of the wave whether rise or fall.
